There is apparently this thing called Archive of Our Own, which looks really cool. However, what is the difference between AOO and, say, FanFiction.Net, apart from the lack of hysterical fanthings?

Being morbidly curious is not a hobby – it's a way of living. or however that quote goes

Ao3 is different for ff.net inasmuch as it has more functionality, so far. For example, you can set up challenges and then assignment submission can be tallied automatically.

Additionally, you can write under more than one penname, and be searchable under more than one alias. The search, as far as I'm concerned, is better too, as it has and/or functionality.

I realise there has been a lot of wank over it, but most that was "OMG NO CHAAAANGE" coming from the entitled fanbrats at Yuletide, which was moved onto it this past year.

I *think* that people who already have accounts there can give out invite codes, so if you want one, I'll see what I can do. Not that I've bothered to move any of my fic there, because I don't like the commenting system, but it makes for an excellent archive. Says me.

Ooh, I see. Sounds exciting! :D

If you'd like to, and are able to, I'd love to get an invite. You are such an angel, you know that, right? ♥

I have requested an invite for you, but Gods only know when it'll come through, as the wording on the page was uninspiring :/ - hopefully at some point in the near future, though.

The person above me basically said it all, but what the hey. The only real different -I- ever knew between ff.net and archive is that archive is completely fan run, unlike ff.net.

Not anything major, but I guess when it comes to a fandoms needs, fans know best? Haha, I hope so..

I think it's a very good thing that the site is run by fans. It makes the mods less scary, you know? "They're nutty fans, just like us! :D"

Hahaha, exactly!
I mean, I don't even know who runs ff.net? It's weird.
