Because between Holmes randomly quoting Wagner's Tristan & Isolde (http://www.nekosmuse.com/withlovesh/?p=234#comment-98) to Watson and the very same quote being repeated during the trippy-trippy scene--with Holmes as Tristan and Watson as Isolde--the slash is almost too much too handle.
