Music Recs

Ack. I know I've been awful at replying to posts lately, but please, do know that I've read them all. I'm following your enthralling war against the music-hooligan with held breath, [livejournal.com profile] latenightcuppa, and I'm glad to hear things are better, [livejournal.com profile] xbittersweet89x!

This week has been busy, not only because Dad is still in the U.S. (he'll be back home on Monday! ♥) but also because my new pills are doing wonders, it seems. My time for fandom has shrunken considerably -- I'm still in a state of shock, actually.

And now for something completely different! I've been downloading fanmixes like mad, and I've discovered new favourite songs. ♥

Sin by Nine Inch Nails = I didn't think NIN could top the song Closer, but apparently they/he have. This is a very sexy and aggressive song, and I adore the way Reznor sings; his anger sort of creeps in under your skin, consumes you. Really, this is a brilliant song.

Lover I Don't Have To Love by Bright Eyes = This song is creepy. Not only are the lyrics haunting, but the music is almost even more so. Especially the melody in the beginning; it reminds me of a music box, of innocence and purity, and BANG, you're faced with Love's an excuse to get hurt / And to hurt / Do you like to hurt? / I do, I do / Then hurt me. Just... Ouch. Should not be listened to on loop, because it'll make you feel funny after a while (trust me, I tried it).

Weapon by Matthew Good = Gods. This one is amazing. It starts out so soothing and safe, almost like a lullaby, and Good sings so mildly you don't really notice the lyrics. Then the second half of the song starts and you're pulled down from your fluffy cloud. The melody is melancholy, almost haunting, and just beautiful. Guh.

We Used To Be Friends by The Dandy Warhols = Such a playful melody (with hand-clapping!) and the chorus is to die for. The lyrics are rather sad, which seems to be the case with most of the really good upbeat songs. This song makes me want to dance, or at least move my body seeing I can't dance to save my life.

Post Blue by Placebo = First of all, this song is incredibly sexy. Don't ask me why or how, I just know that all of Placebo's songs are, and this one in particular is. As always the lyrics too cryptic for little daft me to interpret, but it's clearly about a dysfunctional relationship. So, nothing new there, eh? Gods, I really should go and buy one of their albums already. Anyways, this song is amazing and at least listen to it, even if it's not your usual style.

Stripped by Shiny Toy Guns = Another sexy song, though it's leaning more towards sensual. I really like the drums in this song, and hey, it's a duet, which is lovely. It's a really nice song, calmer than the others, with lovely techno influences. It's pretty!

Let's Talk About Spaceships by Say Hi To Your Mom = This is such a pretty song. It's awkwardness and insecurity and reluctance to talk about important things, all set to a lovely melody. Oh, this is such a cute song, even if it's sad. Remus/Sirius and House/Wilson, anyone?

Walking On Landmines by Chris Holmes = Sort of the same theme as Let's Talk About Spaceships, the awkwardness of UST, though this song is more upbeat and techno. For some reason, the melody makes me think of spring and sunshine and other happy, free things. The chorus is awesome.

Huh. Much rock/techno in this list. Oops. I didn't mean to become so narrow-minded...

Oh well. I'll add a fic rec, too, just because I can.

Title: The Speculum Curse [written by Hyphen]
Rating/Warnings: PG // Gen, good OOCness with good reason, ~25 000 words long
This is a gen-fic without the slightest hint of R/S, but the fantastic Marauder dynamic more than make up for it. Due to a personality-altering curse, we get to see James acting like a wallflower, Peter munching on Snape's kneecaps, Remus chasing skirts and Sirius channeling Gandhi. It's insane and it's hilarious.
