I'm very happy to hear that the hat turned out okay. It was my first try to draw a hat (bad, hurried sketches of baseball caps does not count) so I suppose that was why I had such a hard time with it. The first time is always the hardest.
What pencils I use? Well, I start the drawing by using a 0.3 propelling pencil, filled with HB/B leads. Then I use a softer lead pencil (2B-4B) to create shadows and volume. I use this as foundation for the colouring. I use Faber Castell's Creative Studio Art Grip pencils because I feel that they blend nicer and smoother with each other. (Oh my, I'm such a snob when it comes to drawing!)
