Hullo, hullo. It's been almost a month without an update; that really wasn't my intention. But you see, five days ago, I came home from my three-week long trip to Boston, U.S.A. Which was my first major journey abroad, so I've only now recovered from my jet-lag. I know I have tons of things to catch up on.

So of course I sign up for [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo. ::facepalm:: SELF, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?

This is going to be so much fun. ♥

Merfolk
And Their Reproductive System
An Illustrated Guide To (Almost) Plausible Mermaid Porn

Oh, come on, don’t tell me you aren’t at least curious.

Everyone knows about the Mermaid Problem, right? A normal, sane and boring person would probably say that it doesn’t matter, because a mermaid is part fish, and who wants to have sex with that anyway? But if there’s one thing fandom has taught me, it’s that nothing can or should come in the way of porn. Therefore, I hereby present you a possible solution to this so-called problem.

Note/Disclaimer:

For my research, I have used this and this as reference for outer appearances; for anatomical reference, I used my skills at Google-Fu, Wikipedia and a plethora of books on aquarium fishes. I should probably mention that all I know about biology is what I learnt from watching Animal Planet when I was younger, but I think it’s plausible. Otherwise, I play the “Mermaids are fantasy creatures!” card to get out of jail.
(If you have a better/more plausible/more interesting idea about mermaids and how they reproduce, I’d love to hear about it!)

I seem to be developing something of a fangirl-crush on Victor Trevor. I blame [livejournal.com profile] ladylovelace.

All right, so it might have been I who suggested we should RP a pre-slashy farce about Holmes thinking romantic friendships are common friendships, because Victor told him so, and Watson flips out a bit. Only, then things got melodramatic and we decided to bring Trevor back from Terai America and after enough overacting and drama to make a Victorian roll her eyes, we ended up with all three of them living in a polyamorous relationship, where Trevor and Watson have sex while Holmes doesn’t, because Holmes is emotionally still a teenager.

… I don’t even like OT3s.

What I do like is Oxbridge romances, though. Ah, Charles Ryder/Sebastian Flyte, Maurice Hall/Clive Durham… ♥ I blame the atmosphere of those universities; it’s so terribly romantic. Yes, indeed, that is the reason why I ship Holmes/Trevor so much. That and the fact that Trevor owns a dog, because everything is automatically better with dogs.

(For those of you who are familiar with the radioverse: have you listened to A Study in Scarlet yet? Because according to this ‘verse, the reason Watson gave his bull-pup away (to Stamford, actually) was due to the fact that the pup wouldn’t stop attacking Holmes’ ankles. Sound familiar? ♥)

So, I have now watched Watchmen and am, as per usual, years late to the party.

My verdict: Meh.

Do I really need a spoiler-cut? I’ll play it safe. )

So, in short: meh. I like my superhero movies cracky and shiny, kthxbye.

Title: trapped in the eyes of a stranger
Pairings: Watson/"Holmes" (Watson/OMC)
Rating: PG-13
Genre: AU; Angst, Romance
Word Count: 6 751
Summary: "You're back," Watson says and slowly opens his eyes. A beatific smile graces his lips. "It's you, and you've come back to me."

Disclaimer: This is a transformative work of fiction based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's original works.
(The quotes found in this story are from "The Crooked Man", "The Naval Treaty" and "The Final Problem".)

Notes: This fic was inspired by Cress' Understudy — which I warmly recommend — but with my own, darker, twist to it. A What-if story exploring the theory that the post-Reichenbach Holmes was, in fact, an impostor.
This fic is an unholy mash-up of different 'verses, but the characters' appearances are based on the 2009 movie.

A Mermaid by John William Waterhouse (1901)

Would you look at that? Just... Wow.
I’m not a big fan of classical “real” art – mostly because it seems to me, in my humble opinion, far too pretentious for little me – but I do love the pre-Raphaelites, and especially John William Waterhouse. I mean, just look at this painting. He’s beyond brilliant.

I have a humongous wall picture of this in my room, that’s how much I love this painting. I think it’s because of its softness and air of innocence; the mermaid looks so young and guileless, almost non-sexual for all her sensuality. And then there is the design on the fin. It’s gorgeous. The smooth transition from skin to scales, how it follows the shapes of her body, covering her hips while showing the convex curve of her belly and the heart-shape of the small of her back. That, ladies and gentlemen, is both arousing and alluring, without becoming vulgar for even a moment.

I am so stealing that for my own merfolk design. ♥

Also, just almost off-topic: I know the original voice casting is always the one you should prefer, but I’ve found that I like the Swedish dub version of “Poor Unfortunate Souls” a lot more than the English American one. I think it’s because the Swedish voice actress has such a commanding presence, and an amazing voice.

I still adhere to my opinion that Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a story about a MTF transsexual.

I love the Sherlock Holmes kink memes.* They make the fact that I'm writing a Mermaid AU seem almost commonplace. ♥

I probably shouldn’t write LJ entries rapidly without proofreading first, but I AM EXCITED.

There is apparently this thing called Archive of Our Own, which looks really cool. However, what is the difference between AOO and, say, FanFiction.Net, apart from the lack of hysterical fanthings?

Being morbidly curious is not a hobby – it's a way of living. or however that quote goes
